Fall is officially upon us at the end of this week, and that means it’s time to think about not only ways to update the wardrobe, but cozy into our homes too! While summer sunshine may be clinging on for now, it won’t be long before those chilly autumn evenings are creeping in, and I don’t know about you, but I love nesting this time of year! My favorite place to get inspiration for rooms is absolutely the runway. It’s fun to hone in on some of the trends that can easily translate to our own spaces…
I love the way the look above layers two of my favorite fall trends - leather and menswear. To me this trend is interpreted into a space that’s edgy (leather) and sophisticated (menswear) at the same time. Adding touches of glamour keeps it feeling somewhat feminine, but strong silhouettes and rich masculine colors keep the space true to the inspiration. Consider adding a little leather accent (a bar tray? a chair?) to your home for a dose of this style.
Mustard yellows are going to be a strong color for fall, but here we see it take center stage paired with orange! Don’t be afraid of a little tonal color blocking this fall - the trend is still going strong. With retro inspired lines and clean design, we can take this look straight into the home! Artwork is such an easy way to do this, but you could also consider layering up some solid pillows or bedding in fall fabrics.
Another color that we’ll see a lot of this fall is a beautiful icy blue. This styling stuck out to me in particular because I think we’re seeing a return to true luxury on the runway and in the home - it’s all about beautiful rich fabrics like fur, velvet, silk, and wool. By keeping the palette very simple, it doesn’t feel so over-the-top when you’re adding such decadent details. The greek key bench is the perfect interpretation of this look on its own!
The ladylike trend is still in full force, but we’re seeing it balanced by more menswear fabrics (think tweeds, plaids and nubby wovens) which makes it much easier to translate into a space. Here we see the palette and the concept of ladylike curves translated into the desk, but to really complete the look, I’d add a somewhat modern chair upholstered in a strong plaid, and maybe even add a little black trim detail to those lamp shades to mimic her shoes! For your own home, think about adding a masculine throw over a curvaceous sofa or chair.
When it comes to trends, one doesn’t necessarily want to smother the house in them, which is why I love interpreting my favorite ones into fun accent pieces that will likely be swapped out in another few seasons. Leopard print is one that won’t be fading anytime soon (for some, it’s a classic no matter what!). But pairing it with polka dots is a bold move. Pattern mixing is all the rage right now, but can quickly overwhelm a room. I love interpreting the dots into an ikat pattern instead and giving the prints some breathing room in a space with plenty of neutrals to balance it out.
