It’s my first time at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas, and it’s already been a crazy one. I love this city! It’s a little bit grunge, it’s a whole lot of rock n’ roll, and I never get tired of exploring the downtown streets. Each morning I’ve been getting up and slathering on the sunscreen before I roll on out from gig to gig during the day. (My wardrobe go-tos: A straw hat, round sunnies, denim on denim and my broken-in boots, of course.) My friends and I do so much stomping around the streets that we literally leave trails of dust behind when we get back to our hotels each night. Needless to say, there has been a ridiculous amount of amazing music and bands, everything from folk to psych rock to R&B. SXSW is one festival where you can go, not know any of the bands, and leave with a whole list of incredible new bands you can call new favorites. I love being front and center at a show I’ve never heard of, and leaving thinking, “I LOVE THEM, I need to hear more!” It’s that adrenaline rush of the crowd, the dancing, the flinging of the hair. SXSW is, in a word, liberating. Here, some snapshots from the Austin city streets.
In Texas, I’m all about denim on denim.
Front row and center at Psych-Rock night!! He plays just like JIMI!
My favorite little hideout on East 6th Street!! Calm from the craziness.
The style in Austin is rock n’roll / too cool for school. The boys are all beards and retro tattoos
