MYHABIT sent me into the field to report on what the amazingly talented designers of Rodarte—sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy—were showing at this season’s NYFW. Check out some of the images that I captured backstage and front row…
The inspiration for the show was “Australian Outback.” Led by hairstylist Odile Gilbert for Kérastase Paris, the models were given updated tufted bobs, full yet untamed adorned with star clips while on their face makeup artist James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics gave the girls a sandy and suntanned complexion. Nail artist Deborah Lippmann used two coats of “No More Drama” and a top coat of “Flat Top Matte Top Coat” to finish the earthly, almost dusty feel for the season.
The designers, who had previously partnered with the likes of Nicholas Kirkwood on accessories, branched out on their own this time with their first-ever shoe line (in a word, major). The clothes were extremely beautiful, as expected, but also extremely wearable. Inspired by the multi-layered and rugged outback married with silhouettes of the Victorian era the unveiling began. Patterns referenced aboriginal art and hand prints were inspired by ancient cave paintings.
Not to be outdone was the audience—a star-studded lot that included one of my favorite young actresses Dakota Fanning and a surprise guest, George Lucas! Editor presence was strong as well, with a full turnout from every big fashion magazine. How much do you love Grace Coddington?
