L.A. menswear label Fremont Apparel Co. designs some of the coolest threads around, so it’s no surprise that the guy behind the clothes is pretty chill, too. Here, creative director Devin Carlson shares his habits, both good and not-so.
What’s the one habit you have that changed your life for the better?
Learning to keep my enemies closer. That and sketching more.
What’s the one habit you have that’s not so great?
I occasionally arm wrestle at bars.
What’s your naughtiest habit?
Thinking I can do everything.
What’s your secret (or not-so) style habit?
Japan. I’m a bit too busy to make it to the flea market every week, I wish I could… but I do get to travel for work all the time, and being in new surroundings constantly keeps my personal style accented with things you might not see everyday. That and anything dark.
What’s a habit you wish you had?
Being able to keep some type of consistent schedule.
What three style habit should every guy adopt?
Never get too sucked into a trend, make sure to incorporate it into your own personal style so it comes off effortlessly.
A good bag, this will change your life.
Don’t buy anything unless you feel confident in it.
What three style habits should every guy break?
Flat-ironing hair. (I have a good friend that still does this.)
Wearing anything that does not serve a function. A function can be that it makes you feel good.
Wearing shirts that are short enough to see your belt—or lack thereof.
