He’s dressed the First Lady and Kate Middleton, he’s won the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award: There’s no debating that Prabal Gurung is having a moment. This is not to say, however, that the Nepalese designer has forgotten his roots. His love for design, after all, began in Nepal and India, where he apprenticed locally before moving to New York. After working for the likes of Cynthia Rowley and Bill Blass, Gurung launched his eponymous line in 2009. Beloved for his bold color combinations and avant-garde silhouettes, Gurung continues to up the ante in modern design. Here, the fashion favorite shares the habits that keep him centered.
