It all began with a dress. Wayne Lee’s futuristic concept of a dress, that is. The med school student-turned-Barneys New York buyer launched her eponymous collection in 2007 with the goal of redefining wardrobe staples in a modern, sleek way. And it would appear Lee has done just that: In just five years, she’s taken home the prestigious Ecco Domani Fashion Fund award and counted herself a finalist in the CFDA/ VOGUE Fashion Fund, thus solidifying her reputation as a woman who knows what we all want in our closet.
Here, the talented womenswear designer shares her everyday habits, from a weakness for Werther’s to an affinity for the gym.
What’s the one habit you have that changed your life for the better?
I joined a gym and have been incorporating a few hours of exercise and relaxation in my weekly schedule. I love it.
What’s the one habit you have that’s not so great?
Eating too many Werther’s caramels. They are my favorite and I have a sweet tooth.
What’s your naughtiest habit?
Buying too many leather accessories: wallets, key chains, make-up pouches…etc etc. I’m a collector.
What’s your secret (or not-so) style habit?
I like to wear clothing that is comfortable and easy, but that also speaks me. I like a nice loose t-shirt with a pair of fitted jeans and a nice leather jacket, everything black (or sometimes white).
What’s a habit you wish you had?
I wish I could dance and laugh more.
What habits should every woman should adopt?
Take good care of oneself.
Have a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Reward oneself occasionally with the finest clothes and accessories.
What habit should every woman break?
Break the habit of worrying so much!
